The Guardian - In Progress
Overview
A currently in-progress project where I am working as both a character designer and game developer for USC Games. The game is planned to be made in C# in Unreal 5.
This page will be updated as time passes.

Early concepts I made for the game. I needed to figure out how the models would look from the player's perspective. The game is planned to have a top-down 3d view, so I opted to focus on keeping characters as clear and readable from the players angle.

One of the other challenges I was tasked with solving was Kid's hair and facial design. I work closely with the art director and game director to give them as many options to find the design that best aligns with their vision. These designs are used in feedback rounds.

Here are some more concepts around possible cape designs for Kid. There is a strong focus on their cape being readable. The final design ended up with a mix of E and D.

A more cleaned-up render of the final product. The team ended up going in the direction of design A. This also was with a design shift to focus more on a cutesy low-poly look. Furthermore, this sheet is meant to help the animators get an idea who Kid is.

An environment painted over. This was done to give the level designers a clear idea of what the final environment will look like. Below is the original level block out that I used to paint over

Another task was designing what are rough keys for promotional shots. These are meant to be hyper-stylized and show off the game's more "exploration" focused direction. These block-outs are meant to help the colorist figure out what is associated with which layer.
